After the 3 days long marathon meetings of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) in Viena (Austria), all the 45 members of NSG have finally agreed unanimously to pass the amended proposal regarding International Nuclear Trade with India.
During the 5 rounds of meetings on Friday, some member countries like Austria, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland & China were having certain objections on the format of the proposal, particularly about India's right to conduct nuclear tests in future.
But after the effective negotiation by US representatives and the support of other countries in NSG, all the objections were cleared and the amended version of the proposal was introduced, including certain small changes in the format. On Saturday, the NSG body approved the amended proposal and gave India the right to do nuclear trade with its member nations.
So India's 34 years of nuclear isolation since the First Pokharan Nuclear Tests in 1974 is over! Thus, India has become the first country to get the membership of the global nuclear family without signing treaties like NPT or CTBT.
This is a historical moment for India, and this approval will help in the fulfillment of the need for the nuclear fuel and technologies for India's Civil Nuclear Energy Programme. It will help in preventing the energy crisis in India and promote the environment-friendly source of energy, i.e., NUCLEAR ENERGY. Also, it will help in strengthening the International Nuclear Non-Proliferation Movement!
